Trip to Elqui Valley
Continuing with the Norte Chico, we went to visit some friends to the area of Cochiguaz. Our idea was to make the next day the trekking that goes up the river to Laguna el Cepo. A cordillera lagoon at 3000 masl in the Elqui Valley – Fourth region.
To El Cepo Lagoon
We had dinner, we took some photos to the stars and to sleep. The next day we woke up, breakfast and we left to walk at 7 AM bordering the river. During the first hours we had shade through the closed valley, which makes it very pleasant to walk at that hour.
The walk was along a sandy path overlooking large rock walls at the sides, this was very marked by the passage of the muleteers. After two hours climbing, we turn left to cross a bridge. At this point start a climb more stopping until you reach the Lagoon.
Atractives of the place
The lagoon offers very nice views to the colorful hills of the Valley. The native flora is quite special and there are several species of yareta and coiron. While I bath in the lagoon I observe a couple of Piuquenes or Andean geese.
If you start well early and at a good pace it is possible to get on and off during the day. On the other hand camping in the lagoon offers the opportunity to appreciate a starry sky like nowhere else and the next day to meet other lagoons nearby.
