Climbing north Chile
The coast of the Fourth region in September presents a very pleasant climate, neither much heat nor much cold. Lately it has been known the potential that has the place for the practice of climbing.
On Friday afternoon we went with four friends to the sector of Panul, very close to Coquimbo, for a week. Taking advantage of that I recovered of a wrist injury reason why the motivation was a cap.
We arrived with an abundant rain that helps that in the date you can appreciate a very peculiar native flora. This added to the variety of birds and reptiles brings a scenic beauty to the trails and the place of the blocks.
In total we were 6 days climbing in Golden Zone and the beach of Totoralillo several blocks v3, v4, v5 and achieved a v6 thus raising my degree.
Then we had a day of rest on the beach and another day where I left very early to climb a hill in front of the route. The hill was a west face of 500 meters of climbing by blocks and xerophytic vegetation that was changing as it reached the plateau. There, thanks to the coastal fog, there were larger trees and mosses.
The Lucumillo is an endemic species of the fourth region that is currently in danger of extinction. In the dry years only a percentage of the adult plants bloom and of these a few come to produce fruits available between August and October. The Seremi del Medio Ambiente said that during 2014 a plan will be developed for the conservation of this species.
The urbanization through plots and the increase of dumps in the place threatens these spaces where you can appreciate the native flora.
Absolutely recommended to travel to the area, perfect beach blocks, waves to surf and the possibility of connecting with a visit to the different areas of the Elqui Valley, which range from sports climbing to a seismic such as the Cerro Tórtolas.
